Diet Update – Week: Whatever the Hell It Is

The other day, the Hubster accused me of giving up on my diet.  “NOT SO!” I said. (Well, actually it was more like “F-you, Shit-for-brains”.  But I digress.)

In actuality, I’ve been pretty good throughout the holidays as far as my weight-loss goals go.  I didn’t make my 25 pound loss by Christmas challenge, due to five pounds I put on over Thanksgiving….and the subsequent pigging out for the next two–ahem-three weeks with my friends.  (Hey, it’s called “holiday celebration” for a reason!)  But all in all, it wasn’t so bad.

So, I lost the T-giving weight and managed not to balloon up over Christmas and New Years, which for me is a HUGE achievement.  (I did pop on an extra three pounds last week, right there :points to left hip:) And now here we are…January 4th…and I’m back in the saddle again.  The Weight Watchers points tracker is fired up, I’ve got some bomb new tunes to work out–erm–dance around the house in my underwear to, and I’ve got my eyyyye :wink left: on the priiiize :wink right:.

July 26, 2012 – 160 lbs

January 4, 2013 – 143 lbs.

Goal: 123 lbs.

Holy CrAp Have I Been Busy!

My blog notifications told me that someone “liked” one of my posts yesterday, which made me check my stats.  I found that there have been days when NO ONE VISITED ME!  This is horrible, just horrible!  Then I realized that I have been so stinking busy that I haven’t had time (or inclination) to blog in a while.  So, here’s an update on what’s been going on:

Diet Week 10 (or whatever the hell it is) – I’ve lost 15 lbs!  It is really hard, particularly when I’m doing fun stuff like baking apple pies (which I managed not to eat whole, thankyouverymuch…I left that to the Hubster.  He didn’t mind.)  It’s really awesome to have to wear a belt to hold up my pants. Pretty soon, I’ll have to go shopping!  Woot!

Death and Illness – Keeping up with tracking WW points has been rough this past week.  Sadly, the kids’ grandmother passed away on Wednesday, which led to a quickie visit to PA for the funeral on Friday.  This is just six months after their dad died, so it’s been a rough year for the kiddos.  On top of that, my uncle has not been well and it’s been touch and go for a couple of weeks.  I said at one point that it seems everyone I know is either unemployed or sick.  Your odds are not good if you know me.  If you just read my blog, you’ll probably escape with a mild cold and missing a day of work.  Lucky you.

Employment – Speaking of unemployment, after quitting my job in a very dramatic fashion, last week I started temping  for an agency while I keep looking for regular work.  My first temp job is sorting and tracking campaign contributions for the Romney campaign!  I think my mother summed this up really well when she simply said “karma”.  I’m so anti-Romney, I think I’d rather see Mickey Mouse in the White House than elect Romney.  Wait, that’s pretty much the same thing, isn’t it? (Which reminds me…I haven’t posted a political rant in a while.  Keep your eyes peeled for one soon.  I’ve got one simmering and if I don’t get it out soon, it’s going to stink like rotten eggs.)

Squirrels – And on a completely random and unrelated note, THEY’RE BACK!  It seems that the dry summer has seriously put a dent in the squirrel population and there have been far too few of the little critters to keep me sufficiently amused for quite a while.  However, the cooler weather has brought them out, looking for their winter nutty goodness, to my unconcealable delight.  Yesterday, I sat for MINUTES watching one sneak attack a group of band students, darting between trees and running up the backside as to remain virtually invisible.  (They are sneaky little critters, those squirrels).  I was utterly entertained and I’m sure I appeared quite mad as I sat giggling to myself for no apparent reason.  I guess the squirrels aren’t’ the only ones who are a little nuts.  😀

Diet: Week 5 – Lost 10 lbs!!

I DID IT!  I LOST  TEN POUNDS!

It was hard.  It was really really hard.  REALLY HARD!  A tub of potato salad that was left over from the band pool party tortured me aaaallll week!  I ate some every damn day too.  I counted the points, but still.  NO one needs to eat potato salad every day!  On Thursday, before my weigh in, I tried to throw it away.  I tried.  I didn’t.  I finished it instead.  😦  Bad me!!  I couldn’t even blame it on the Easter Bunny this time.

But I did it and I gave myself a nice little reward – I bought new sneaks for zumba class and downloaded some new walking music.  🙂  Okay, maybe they weren’t all for 10 lbs, but I got them this week too, so it’s kinda relevant.

In any case, I can see 145  just over the horizon….GO ME!!

I’m a Camel!!

OMG…I  just had the most hilarious conversation with my girlfriend at work.

We were discussing workout routines and our goals for them.  She said that in the middle of her Couch to 5K routine, she had to stop to suck wind.  She said she felt like an elephant.  I can relate.  I ran about a hundred yards the other night and every step felt like CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP!

She recalled being young and gazelle-like.

HER (wistfully):  “I want to be a gazelle again.”

ME: “I’ll never be a gazelle.  I’d settle for a small hippo.”

HER: (clearly on a roll), “…or maybe a giraffe.  They kinda gallop along.  I could be a giraffe….” :galloping like a giraffe:

ME: “Or a camel!”

HER: “Hey, camels are fast!  They’re lumpy all over, but FAST!” :making fast motions:

ME: “That settles it then!  We will be camels!  Lumpy all over, but fast as hell!!”

I think that’s a reasonable goal.   I’ve definitely got the lumpy part down pat.  Now if I can just find a Couch to Refrigerator workout routine, I’ll be all set.

Diet: Week 3

Down 7 lbs!

I am so excited! Clothes are starting to fit a little better and I can feel a little difference.

I decided to join a challenge group on Weight Watchers Online to lose 25 lbs by Christmas.  I just realized that doesn’t include the 7 I already lost.  This is gonna be tough!  LOL

The keys have been to eat more fruit/veggies, drink lots of water, cut out soda, cut down on portion size at home, started packing lunches with frozen entrees so I can determine exactly how many points I want to have at that meal, and stocking my desk with better snack options than hitting 7-Eleven for a soda and candy bar.

That may seem like a lot of changes, but really it’s not so hard.  It does take a lot of thinking and planning though.

Next step is to increase my activity.  I enjoyed zumba, but want to start walking regularly too.

I can do this!

Diet: Week 1

Overall, it was a good week.  I lost 5 lbs and didn’t stuff my face despite being under a huge amount of stress.  I’m learning how to substitute fruit for munchies and not to eat when I’m just craving something to chew on.  Water has been my friend.  I’ve also been eating the Smart Ones meals for lunch at work, which is not only cheaper than going out, it keeps me from overeating due to large takeout portions and helps me balance what I have for lunch with what I have for dinner.  The best part – I’m really not hungry.

I can do this! 🙂

Diet: Day 5 – Lost 5 Pounds!

I weighed in this morning and lost 5 lbs!  I honesty can’t believe it.  I got myself a haircut at my favorite salon here in Pittsburgh to celebrate!  Then, I did something I shouldn’t and saved most of my daily points for my dad’s amazing dinner – haddock fillets (fried) and homemade potato chips.  I’m sorry…but it was just too good to pass up!  I had basil tomato salad as a side, so at least that was healthy!  🙂

Tomorrow night – ball game.  Ooooohhh…ball park dogs and beer are going to be a toughie.  Especially with box seats and waitresses that serve!  🙂

Diet: Day 4

Standard

Managed to travel while still maintaining my diet.  Yay, me!  Dad made a delicious dinner of pork fajitas with lots of veggies (recipe later…gotta con it out of Dad…haha).  Very few points.  Three pounds lost so far and I haven’t weighed in yet today.  I’m stoked!  Can’t wait to start zumba next week!

The trick tonight will be going to the ballpark tomorrow night for a Washington Wild Things game without eating a week’s worth of fattening crap!  I must have at least one beer though.  It’s not a ball game without beer.

 

Diet: Day 3

Standard

Still motivated!  W00t!!  Got on the scale this morning and I lost a pound and a half.  I would have to say it’s definitely due to the increase in water consumption.  I’ve been really good at drinking a lot and I probably peed 5 times yesterday just during the workday.  Hubster and I weren’t hungry without the kids around this evening, so I borrowed a quick “sandwich” idea from Liz.  I made a Virginia ham and Muenster cheese roll-up with mustard.  Even nice and thick, it was only 8 points without the bread.  I had some baby carrots and water and I’m good to go!  🙂

Hopefully with my new-found weight loss,  I won’t have to worry about having a wardrobe malfunction while re-enacting my favorite moments from the Olympics.

LOL!  I’ll tell you about that tomorrow.  😉
